Principal's Welcome Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. Hartford Middle School is off to a great start. Our students and staff appreciate the community support, and we thank all the parents and volunteers that contributed to our success. We moved out of the basement of Academic Emergency into the first floor for Academic Watch. Our report card rating went from 67.6% to a 71.8% rating. Our math department scores improved in the 7th grade by 25 points. This is some of the highest single year growth on record. Our mission continues to be to teach our students to read, write, speak, but most importantly think. Our goal is to send our students to high school prepared to move on to college and graduate. We would like to thank The Michael A. Doss Foundation for an exceptional “Back 2 School Block Party.” Mr. Doss and his foundation provided free food and back packs along with school supplies for our community in August. We have made several staff changes in order to promote the vision, mission and goals of our new administration. Change is inevitable progress is optional. We wish our former colleagues much success in their new endeavors and we look forward to working with our current staff. The needs of our children, families and communities are paramount. If we are to take advantage of the opportunities the future has for our students, we must equip them with the skills necessary to function in the times they live. Education was, still is and continues to be one of the greatest equalizer that this world provides. To deny yourself access to education is to deny yourself access to choice, chance, and opportunity. We would like to take this time to wish a very special happy birthday to Reverend George Dunwoody who has spent 30 years at Hartford Middle School making a difference and is celebrating his 50th year on this earth. You are an unspoken hero and a pillar to many in this community. I just call you a quiet giant in the community. We would like to wish the Fisher family our sympathy with the passing of Mr. Robert Fisher, He was a mentor to me and several other young African American men trying to make a difference in our lifetimes. “ A man has started to learn the true meaning of life when he can plant shade trees knowing full well he will never reap the benefits of the shade” Ernest Trueblood.
